Chaparral Hills Baptist Church of Amarillo, Texas began as an earnest desire by several people for a church in this area in April of 1976. The Missions Committee of Paramount Baptist Church took this on as a project. In July of 1976 three men joined together and prayed about having a tent revival in the area. On August 22-27 of the same year, a tent revival was held on the present site of the church. August 29, 1976 the first mission service was held in Rolling Hills Elementary School and was called Paramount North (as we were a mission of Paramount Baptist Church of Amarillo). There were approximately 35-40 people attending.
On February 6, 1977 the name of the mission was changed to Chaparral Hills Baptist Mission. August 15, 1977 W.A. Mays donated the land for a church building and ground breaking for a church building was held on October 2, 1977. The first service in the new church building was February 12, 1978. Charter day for Chaparral Hills was August 29, 1982 when we were no longer a mission, but Chaparral Hills Baptist Church.
Chaparral Hills has had three pastors: Alan Bingham, Albert Green, and our present pastor Alan Burkhalter.
Prayer has been a very important part of this church and a free standing prayer building called "House of Prayer" was built. It was completed and dedicated in September of 1991.
As our Church has grown, additional education space has been built twice and an activity center with a basement was finished in March of 1999. Our new Worship Center was completed and dedicated in December of 2004. Our affiliation is with the Southern Baptist of Texas Convention and the Southern Baptist Convention. To God be the glory!
